Practical Information
In Luxembourg, these are distinct professional roles.A psychologist has university-level training in psychology and may work in areas such as psychological assessment, counselling and support.A psychotherapist is a psychologist or doctor who has completed recognised additional training in psychotherapy and is authorised to practise psychotherapy.A psychiatrist is a medical doctor specialising in psychiatry. Because psychiatrists are doctors, they can prescribe medication as well as provide psychiatric treatment.
Psychotherapists do not prescribe medication unless they are also qualified medical doctors. Psychotherapy can be used on its own or alongside medical treatment. If questions about medication arise, these can be discussed with your GP or psychiatrist.
Confidentiality is a fundamental part of psychotherapy. What you discuss in your sessions is treated confidentially within the applicable professional and legal framework. At the beginning of therapy, I will explain confidentiality and any circumstances in which there may be legal or professional limits to it.
No. Therapy is a collaborative process. You decide what you are ready to talk about and at what pace. Sometimes it can be useful to approach difficult subjects, but this should be done thoughtfully and with respect for your boundaries.
That is completely reasonable. The first sessions are also an opportunity to see whether my way of working feels suitable for you. If we decide that another therapist, therapeutic approach or type of professional support would be more appropriate, we can discuss this openly.
Yes. You can decide to stop therapy at any point. Where possible, it is useful to discuss the decision together rather than simply stopping, as a final session can provide an opportunity to reflect on the work you have done and bring the therapeutic relationship to an appropriate close.
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please give at least 48 hours notice.Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, as well as missed appointments, may be charged
